Who Gets to Call it Art?

Play Me!!!

How do we know if Art is any good when we see it ?

IS THE JOKE ON US?

For example Tracey Emin's 'my bed'- who said this is art? why is not just an unmade bed ? I think maybe, we have no single idea what Art should be. It had modernistic links, its pushing boundaries and making something we wouldnt normally link to Art.

Damien Hirst 'Con'- Artist

I think there is sufficient evidence to suggest that Damien Hirst's work was actually copycats, I do not disregard his work as art, but I do as original art
Some of Hirst's work includes Away the Flock, The Physical Impossibility of Death in the mind of something Living, and for the Love of God. Which all are trying to put forward different emotions on to the on lookers. HIs main subject of his work is death expressed through the use of a human skull, and dead carcasses of different animals. But yet people question is his work art? From a conceptual view it is, because there is an idea that has been put forward but I think Art has to justify itself which I don't think think it does here. The reason I think it is successful, is because of it's commodity, it is very easy to sell.

Considering Art

What is Art?
Who Determines what Art is?
Is Art a Democracy?
What is Conceptual Art?
When did Conceptual Art start? Why? Is it Valid?
Damien Hirst-What is that about?
Damien Hirst Con-'Artist'?
How have Historians, Writers, Critics, Thinkers, Artists....Defined it?
Is it Original?
Is Art ever Original ?
Do we as individuals know Art when we see it or do we see something as Art because someone says it is?
Can people disagree on their definitions of Art?

I chose this area of research as a sort of development from my Unit 2 AS Critical and Contextual work. Where I studied Stuckism and conceptual art and argued the two against each other. This led to me having a fascinating interest in the topic, and was very interesting to research the topics.
